We walked from the Miradouro Boca da Corrida at a height of 1200m and climbed to the Pico Grande: One of the highest peaks of the Island with stunning views over the Nun’s Valley, Ribeira Brava and Pico Ruivo.
Day 3 Lakes of Madeira
Twenty-five springs join to form this impressive waterfall but once past this point the crowds dwindled and the walk was ours alone.
Day 4 started with a descent from Prazares though a beautiful steep ravine to the coastal village of Paul do Mar. Then on up to the Levada Nova which contoured through several wooded valleys past farms and allotments.
Day 5 : R & R; some went to the Botanic Gardens and others went walking.
Day 6
Following the Levada Canical lead us into the hills of Machico (which was the first capital of Madeira) this gave great views of the more rugged North coast.
Day 7
Today’s walk took us through a long road tunnel hence the head torches. We followed the Levada Nova on the way out and the Levada do Moinho on the way back. More spectacular views over the impressive valley and coastline.
On day 8 we were homeward bound but not before some retail therapy and sightseeing in the capital Funchal.
The last lunch!
