Debbie arranged a walk en route to the accomodation for Friday afternoon and members enjoyed a 6 mile stroll featuring a very unusual gorge with carvings in the stone. In the evening we had a warming vegetarian meal, partly cooked in the original fitted wooden kitchen, with birthday cake for a significant birthday, followed by some social time in the Piano room complete with a stack of vinyl to listen to.
On Saturday we walked an 11.2(ish) mile loop from the house, car-free in keeping with the ethos of MW, and visited several ancient sunken tracks, Lambert's Castle iron age hill fort with splendid views and some sections of the Monarch's Way, climbing 1700 ft in all. A 3 course vegetarian supper was served by the log burner, games were played and most of us retired early, ready for Sunday.
We had a leisurely start and walked to the South West Coast Path and on down in to Lyme Regis for a stroll along the beach area and fish and chips for lunch, before following the river Lim back up towards some pretty woods (and a bunch of escaped sheep) before crossing the dangerous A35 and descending back to Monkton Wyld. A satisfying 8.4 miles to finish off the weekend. We all agreed it's a place to return to and there's certainly plenty more walks to do in the area.
