Day Walk – Amberley
Sunday 5th May 2024

On Sunday 5th May we will meet at 10am in the free car parking in Amberley village at TQ 032 129. Anyone joining us by public transport can arrive by train at Amberley station and follow the road to the right, then take the first right up High Titten (signposted South Downs Way) waiting to meet the rest of us at the first junction with a minor lane coming up from the car park in the village (TQ 033 125). (I believe there may be a Compass bus running from Storrington but only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so not much use for us!)

Once I have an indication of numbers interested it may be possible to offer car shares.

We will walk initially along the SDW towards Rackham Banks, turning south along a wide (mud free) lane towards Wepham, through Burpham with a possible pit stop at the George before heading down past Peppering Farm. On the recce this week the lower fields were still flooded so there is an alternative loop that takes the higher path to North Stoke and back to Amberley. It should be around 10 miles with 997 ft of ascent. If the weather is kind we could stop off in Amberley at the finish for a cuppa and cake at the tea rooms or a swift half at the pub. Please bring a picnic lunch.

There is also a shorter loop of approx 5.5 miles if anyone wishes to reduce the length - this could mean a nice leisurely stroll with lunch at the Bridge Inn whilst waiting for the others to return.

Please let me know by Friday 3rd if you'd like to come along and whether you will be travelling by car or train.
