Weekend Trip – Bath/WiltshireFriday 5th - Sunday 7th March 2027Join us for two days walking in the picturesque and gentle landscape of Bath and West Wiltshire. We shall be staying in the Plunkett Bunkhouse, approximately 10 miles SSW of Bath, where we have sole use of facilities. The bunkhouse is part of Downside School, an independent boarding and day school located in Stratton-on-the-Fosse, with a history spanning over 400 years. Accommodation consists of several smaller bunkrooms, a modern kitchen, and a group dining area with adjacent sitting room. There are typical shared washing facilities, showers and toilets suitable for large groups. Ample parking is available in the private grounds of the school. On the Saturday we will walk in the area around Bath (a variant on the well-known Bath skyline walk), with views of historic Bath and surrounding countryside. For anyone not wishing to walk, there are lots of interesting historic places to visit locally, such as Bath, Wells, and Bradford on Avon. On Sunday, we will travel east into Wiltshire to walk the chalk downland, river valleys with chalk streams, and pretty villages that characterise the county. In early March the days are still relatively short, but for those joining from Sussex, the journey home after Sunday's walk should be around an hour shorter than the outward trip. Cost: The Plunkett Bunkhouse is the most affordable we could find in this expensive area and trip costs are estimated at £160 with group travel, or £120 for independents. This price includes two breakfasts and two evening meals. Places available: 14 Deposit £100 |
