Day Walk – Kingley Vale
Sunday 25th May 2025

Our walk takes us through Kingley Vale which is a National Nature Reserve with magnificent ancient yew trees. Then we head up to the Devil’s Humps where there are tumuli within which, legend has it, Danish Kings (or Wessex kings) were buried following a battle. There are great views from here. Joining the Monarch’s Way further on we follow it in a westerly direction gently downhill to the village of Stoughton and then up a little and on taking us through the village of Walderton. We then climb gently back eastwards towards the Vale before returning to the car park.

The car park northwest of the village of West Stoke is not massive but as it is well used could I ask that we meet at 09.30 for a 09.45 departure.

Please share cars where possible as space is limited.

The walk is about ten miles with approximately 1350 feet of ascent and great views to the south! I envisage it taking us some five hours including stops for coffee and a picnic lunch (please bring). As it is not reachable by public transport if anyone needs transport to and from could they please let me know as soon as possible so that I can coordinate lifts if necessary.

Please let me know if you wish to join us.
