Planning Evening

I’d like to extend a very warm invitation to all Club members for the annual Club Planning meeting at 24 Rosebery Avenue, Goring-By-Sea, on Monday 17th July at 7pm. That’s BN12 4EU for the satnav fans amongst you.

This is really important evening for the Club, as not only do we get to plan all the fabulous things we are going to do next year, but we also get to enjoy some cracking cheese and wine with fresh french bread whilst reminiscing over the previous 12 months. What worked, what didn’t. Whether you’ve been on lots of club trips or if this is only your first year, you’ll be made very welcome.

At the AGM, and at the Club’s 30th anniversary celebrations last year, there were lots of great suggestions for places that our Club could arrange trips to in 2018. On Monday the 17th of July, we’ll be discussing the ideas below (amongst others) and hopefully I’ve transcribed them correctly - they are:

Weekend Trips:
• Dorset – to backpack part of The Wessex Ridgeway or coastal path
• Brecon Beacons – assisted backpack
• Langdale Horse-shoe (Lake district) over two days, staying overnight either below Barfell or dropping down to Langdale Campsite
• Isle of Wight Coastal route, using Coastal bus to get back to base
• Coastal walks (Day / evening or weekend) generally
• Gower (I think!) – rent a couple of cabins at a place beginning with “O” for three nights
• Sixpenny Handley area in Wiltshire – campsite next to the church in the village : “They do food as well in a large farm building”
• St David’s Pembrokeshire
• Cornwall
Overseas:
• sea and mountains of Northern Spain (L’Estartit) – 7 nights self-catering apartment plus 5 days guided walks approx. ~£185 pp – April/May or Oct / Nov
Koolski.com – hiking in Bulgaria’s Rila mountains – self-catering accommodation plus guided walks plus airport transfer Approx £300 pp July / Aug / Sept
• Ireland
• Northern Ireland (Giant’s Causeway)
• Northern Ireland – Mourne Mountains
• North Norway
• Lech Valley – Austria
• Santiago de Compostela – in Northwestern Spain

If any of these particularly take your fancy (whether you suggested them or not) it would be really helpful if you could take the time to google possible accommodation options, routes, or suggest dates - it’ll make them much more likely to happen!! Even if you’re unable to make it; all contributions to help move things along are appreciated and it takes a little bit of the burden off the trip organisers. A little help goes a long way. The same goes if you’ve got ideas for places not listed above, let me know and we’ll try to get them discussed.

If you’ve made it this far through the email then I’ve got one last request, if you think you are able to come then can you please drop me a line so I can try and buy enough cheese (and wine)!

See you soon

Alison
